Advanced Motorcycle Training Course

The one day training course runs from 8.30am to  4:30pm. The day will begin with some theory and a chat to establish your individual needs, so that the course can be tailored around you. Knowledge of Roadcraft will be discussed before the 1st assessment ride.

All of our Advanced instructors have either a R.o.S.P.A. diploma in advanced motorcycle instruction or are on the the DVSA's Register of Post licence Motorcycle Trainers (R.P.M.T.) Advanced riding courses can be run every day through the year subject to the weather. Snow, ice, very high winds, flooding or poor visibility may result in your course being postponed.

If you decide an advanced motorcycle training course is for you, then you will learn a valuable insight from the experience of others. Rest assured that you will enjoy your time with us and you could also reap the additional benefits such as more favourable insurance discounts, You can gain skills and knowledge from veterans in the business that will help in many ways you never thought possible.

The enjoyment gained from riding a motorcycle skilfully is second to none. However, it takes confidence, excellent riding skills, physical co-ordination and balance. Keeping your skills up to date and checking that you have not become overconfident, complacent or picked up bad habits is something that few of us do.

Not all crashes are down to mistakes by riders, but we can all pick up bad habits. The accident statistics among motorcyclists would suggest that everyone should at least have their riding ability assessed from time to time. Ironing out those bad habits and improving your anticipation skills will not only keep you safer on the roads, but will also help you to get more from your bike.

Advanced Riding Techniques Ltd agrees wholeheartedly with The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency’s (D.V.S.A.) great value on lifelong learning. This can take you beyond the basic skills to a level that will improve your own and others’ safety. It will also allow you to make better use of the road and gain more enjoyment from the riding experience.

F.A.Q Advanced motorcycle rider training

Can anyone take an advanced course?

Yes, anyone that has a current valid UK motorcycle licence. You should be very familiar with your machine, ideally having ridden regularly it the last year.

What is an Advanced Rider?

An advanced rider is a safer rider. We all realise that not every road user is as well training or aware of all that goes on around them. As motorcyclists, we are more vulnerable and as such need to be better observers.

Will I get a discount on my insurance?

For all of the advanced riding options in the U.K. you could expect to gain 10% on your insurance.

What is the difference between the following advanced training options?

All ERS Instructors are required to be on the government register of post licence motorcycle trainers (RPMT) They are fully qualified, professional, insured & hugely experienced instructors.  Professional instructors are mostly qualified by way of a Diploma and can offer their services commercially.  Most R.o.S.P.A. & I.A.M "Instructors" are volunteer observers only but have lots of useful experience to pass on. Both groups usually operate by way of a club basis with hundreds of groups around the UK.

R.o.S.P.A Diploma holders.

Holders of a Diploma in advanced rider instruction usually have a good few years of experience before committing to this level. Many of them are CBT & DAS instructors, a lot of the Bikesafe teams around the UK have them and a good few others who also wish to take their road based tuition to the ultimate level. After successful advanced rider training, you will be advised on the best way to move forward or to take an Advanced test with R.O.S.P.A. or the I.A.M. should you chose to.

E.R.S. (Enhanced Rider Scheme)

Qualified CBT & DAS instructors are also on the RPMT after successfully completing an ERS course. After successful ERS training you will be advised on the best way to move forward or to take an Advanced test with R.O.S.P.A. or the I.A.M. should you chose to.
