Riding with L-Plates

Riding with L-Plates

Riding with L-Plates as a Learner. We have staged access in the U.K. starting at 16 years of age. You will need a valid full or provisional UK driving licence and to have completed a Compulsory basic training course  before being allowed to ride on the public road. You can apply for your first UK provisional driving licence three months before your 16th birthday but you will not be able to use it until it becomes valid, on your 16th birthday.

16 years old you may only ride a 50 cc moped with a maximum power of 4 kw. A Moped by definition in law, is a PTW that has a maximum design speed of no more than 30Mph or 50Kph. As soon as it goes any faster than this, it is a motorcycle & you must be at least 17 years old and have motorcycle insurance.

17 years or older you may ride up to a 125cc with a maximum power of 11 kW (15 Bhp).

Here are some examples of bikes can you ride on a CBT certificate.

ALL of our CBT courses at ART are fully inclusive of everything you will need and are run with one instructor with two riders (2:1) for the whole day, not just the road ride for a couple of hours in the afternoon!
