Full A2 Motorcycle Licence

A2 Motorcycle Licence

Middleweight motorcycle or scooter

Learn to ride a motorcycle

You must be a minimum of 19 years old or over, have already passed compulsory basic training, the D.V.S.A. motorcycle theory test and then must take both Modules 1 & 2 of your practical test on a motorcycle that qualifies for A2 entitlement. Module 1 will be carried out at a M.P.T.C (Multi Purpose Test Centre), once this has been passed you are then able to take the on road part (Module 2) this will then give you the A2 Motorcycle entitlement. ART uses Brand new Honda CB500F's and Yamaha MT-07's that are restricted to 35 kW (47 Bhp). Remember that if you want to practice for your test on this size bike, you can only do so if accompanied by a professionally qualified D.S.A. approved motorcycle instructor, not just your mate with a full licence.

More information on passing your full UK motorcycle licence.

A2 Medium Motorcycle Test

This test must be taken on a minimum of a 395cc motorcycle with a power output of between 20 kW (26bhp) and 35 kW (47bhp).

When you have passed the A2 licence you can ride any machine of any cc but it must produce no more than 35 kW or 47bhp, you can carry passengers and ride on motorways.

(please note that the maximum power to weight ratio is not allowed to be more than 0.2kwh per kg, also any bike that produces more than 70kwh or 94bhp in standard factory issue CANNOT be restricted down to 35kwh)

What can I ride at 19

Have a look at some of the most popular A2 bikes and A2 scooters.

When you have held this entitlement for a minimum of two years (21 if you took the A2 at 19) you can then upgrade to a full motorcycle licence by one of the following two options:

1/ At present take another D.V.S.A. test, Mod 1 and Mod 2. You will NOT have to take C.B.T. or theory test again!

2/ By 2022 hopefully take a 7 hour training upgrade course, this will hopefully be carried out by us, but as yet no answers available from the D.V.S.A.
